Hawaii: Oahu

Oahu has many famous sites including Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, Honolulu, Waikiki Beach, etc. When I visit Hawaiian Islands I like to enjoy the natural places and the people. The big, bustling city of Honolulu is not my idea of Hawaii but many tourists flock there. Oahu has much to offer besides the big city. I particularly enjoyed the sites and history at Pearl Harbor. This is a “must see” place. I also enjoyed the climb to the top of Diamond Head and the spectacular views. Another favorite was the trail to the Makapu’u Lighthouse. Here are some of my favorite places on Oahu.

Diamond Head Lighthouse
Diamond Head Lighthouse

Diamond Head, Oahu: (full article) The climb to the top of Diamond Head is a moderate ascent mostly up a series of stairs (LOTS of stairs). The view from the top is awesome. Looking down gives you an impressive view of the clear ocean waters and a lighthouse. Hold on to your hat (literally) because the winds at the top can be swift and many, many hats dot the cliffs below the viewing area. This is a very popular spot so plan accordingly. I went early in the morning and it was moderately crowded but not too bad.

Pearl Harbor (Oahu) (full article) is a must-see destination. Be sure to take a tour of the USS Missouri (the Mighty Mo) and the Arizona Memorial. I also recommend touring the Bowfin Submarine.
